Meditation

What is Mindfulness Meditation?

Mindfulness Meditation is a spiritual tool that dates back to Ancient African history thousands of years ago. It’s a tool that offers an experience to increase self awareness, and improves mental, and physical health. Mindfulness Meditation is the act of exercising your brain, and noticing what’s is happening in the present moment. The practice of connecting our thoughts and bodies. It helps us to notice our fears, anger, and worries that often get in the way of our hearing. Mindfulness Meditation creates a space for the brain to complete its natural form of healing. Meditation allows the brain to find the quietness that already exists under all of the distractions.

“ Meditation practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better. It’s about befriending who we are already"

Some Benefits of Meditation are:

  • Reduced Anxiety
  • Reduced Racing Thoughts- A Reduction in Thoughts Bouncing Around
  • Increases Self Control
  • Improves Sleep
  • Reduction in negative thoughts

Reduces Anxiety

Anxiety is the most common feeling experienced by people. It’s natural and there’s nothing wrong with it other than it bothers us and makes us uncomfortable. By meditating it helps us to notice the anxiety, and connect it with our bodies sensations. We then can notice if our chest is tightening or if our muscles are tensing up. So rather than getting entangled in our thoughts, meditation helps the brain to notice the thought and the body sensations, and eventually breaks the cycle of getting caught up in our thoughts, and creating a crazy story about it. Research supports that meditation is useful for moderately reducing anxiety.

Improves Sleep

Sleeping can be difficult. Insomnia is usually related to stress, because we bring our anxieties to sleep with us. We run through the day at the end our night. Meditation can help improve sleep by helping to disengage in the thinking mind and other stimulation such as the light from our phones. It helps to reduce the flow of incoming information. Meditation can help shift the body from a stress to a relaxation response causing a deeper and more restful sleep. Meditation helps the mind to relax, rest and restore.

Improves Self Control

Meditation helps improve self control by helping us gain a better understanding of ourselves. Once we learn ourselves we have better control over our actions, thoughts, and feelings. Meditation helps us train our brains to be less distracted and increasing the ability to focus. Giving us more energy and time to put forth towards the people and things that we love.

“Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It is a way of entering into the quiet that is already there- buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks everyday”
- Deepak Chopra
