Alizae Wineglass, LPCA

I’m an Associate Licensed Professional Counselor and my passion for mental health in the Black community comes from witnessing family members work in the mental health field.  My family’s commitment to mental health inspired me to study Art Therapy and Counseling from Albertus Magnus. My experiences working with mental health have allowed me to understand the disparities and inequities of mental health treatment in communities of color compared to the ease of access within rural areas.  Communities of color are often faced with multiple barriers to affordability, access, and representation that often result in mental imbalances, disease, and lack of fulfillment in life. I’m here to close mental health disparities for communities of color.

My goal of working in the mental health field is to encourage healing for Black and people of color who face mental health difficulties rooted in trauma and chronic stress.

My professional experiences have allowed me to utilize my skills in settings focused on helping youth, students, people overcome addictive behaviors, and those seeking to learn positive behavior changes. The integration of Art Therapy into my counseling work allows for verbal and non-verbal expression as a way to process emotions and feelings.

Clients that I am passionate about working with are those who have experienced:

  • Trauma & PTSD
  • Anxiety: excess worry and distress
  • Depression: sadness, low self-esteem & motivation, loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
  • ADHD: Difficulty concentrating, focusing and hyperactivity
  • LGBTQIA+ (gender and identity)
  • Domestic Violence: survivors who experienced emotional, physical, financial, and verbal abuse in relationships

With a background in Art Therapy and Counseling, I find my approach allows for a dive into the subconscious through a visual lens. Art therapy offers a non-verbal alternative to regular talk therapies while exploring the narrative hidden with an image. I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered therapy to identify stressors/triggers and develop tools to aid in coping with these issues. My belief is that through holistic and personalized treatments, Black communities and those of color can begin to deconstruct how they view healing.

Personal wellness begins here. My role is to be accessible, accommodating, and motivating so you can be your best self. I believe that my skill set and creative approach to therapy are ideal for clients seeking healing and balance.
