Michel Davis, LPC

My name is Michel (Me-Shell) Davis, and I am a CT-based Licensed Professional Counselor and NY-based Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over a decade of experience in the mental health field. I am passionate about helping individuals strive through challenges and achieve their therapeutic goals. I provide an eclectic approach meeting clients where they are and have experience in trauma-informed counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, individual, family, and group therapy. As a first-generation West-Indian and second-generation Latina, I saw and experienced first-hand the intricate layers of gender, race, and ethnicity. Openly talking about all parts of our cultural identity is valuable and encouraged in my therapy sessions. Being bilingual in Spanish has allowed me to connect and provide support to the Spanish-speaking population. I love working with families and providing reflections, empathy, and gentle challenges in building relationships, improving effective communication, and providing safe spaces for gaining insights. My desire for helping others stems from a past of curiosity towards human behaviors and a natural empathic and compassionate personality. Reflecting on my own mental health and experiencing life transitions including loss, led me to pursue my interest in psychology.

While majoring in psychology in my undergraduate studies at Rutgers University, I fell in love with the Counseling Psychology course and decided to pursue counseling in my graduate studies. After receiving my Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling at the State University of New York at New Paltz, I worked in a community-based clinic in the Bronx, NY serving children, adolescents, and their families. I had the privilege to work directly with families and facilitate multi-family and adolescent skills therapy groups. I love working with those who present with anxiety, difficulties in managing stress, bereaving individuals, a history of trauma, or those who are going through transitions and adjustments.

Outside of my therapeutic clinical work, I am an artist. I have two published poetry books, am a dancer, and engage in arts & crafts. I utilize journaling for my own self-care and implement journaling practices, art expressive techniques, and incorporate music in my therapy sessions. I find that expressing ourselves in other ways outside of verbal communication, allows for authenticity, growth, and expansion. I look forward to implementing art-based expressive techniques in sessions and providing a safe space to process feelings, experiences, and identify solutions to problems.
